Dance Reflection 2:

Dance in Education Part 2

Agenda

  • Dance and Science Cross Curricular Connection
  • Consider the Needs of Students with Exceptionalities

Dance and Science Connections
Grade 5: Human Organ Systems

- Follow established safety procedures for physical activities
- Use scientific inquiry/experimentation skills to investigate changes in body systems (e.g., heart rate, breathing, body temperature)as a result of physical activity
- Identify interrelationships between body systems (e.g., the respiratory system provides oxygen and removes carbon dioxide for the circulatory system).

Consider the Needs of ASD students

- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) refers to a complex developmental brain disorder that affects the way the brain works.
- Children with ASD experience difficulties in two areas: social communication and social interaction
- As such, children can appear to be restricted; with dance, this can produce either positive or negative actions.
- Educators should ensure that all students have an equal opportunity
- When considering students who have ASD, we have to be mindful of how they might feel in certain dance situations.
