Dance Reflection 3:
Dance in Education Part 3
Agenda - Lessons to Improve our Understanding of Dance:
- Elements of Dance
- Getting Moving (seems to be a pattern in this course!)
- Choreographic manipulations
Elements of Dance:
- Body
- Energy
- Space
- Time
- Relationship
We learned about these 5 elements of dance, going over what each of them look like, feel like, and the importance of connecting the elements of dance.
Let’s Get Moving!
DANCE WARM UP:
Fill in the Spaces – positive & negative shapes
- This is a great activity to ensure both competence at moving around the classroom safely, and maintaining your own body awareness!
Our Special Education Focus of the Day:
English Language Learners (ELL)
- For students who are acquiring English as an additional language(s).
- Newcomers to Canada have come for a variety of reasons, and ELL students's make up a large portion of those newcomers.
- These students need to feel welcome, particularly when expressing certain movements that may feel vulnerable.
• Size
• Direction you face
• Stationary vs. Locomotor
• Forwards & backwards
• How can you repeat it? (patterns, forms)
• Percussive vs. Non-percussive
• Levels

Dancing into the Thoughts Section:
- This was a great dance class that allows for both inclusive learning, and has the potential to attach itself to other curriculum expectations.
- It is important to meet the needs of all learners, so I liked how we discussed how we can communicate this lesson to students with exceptionalities (this week ELL students)
