Dance Reflection 4:
Drama in Education Part 1
We had a jam packed dance session this week! We of course began with our warmup, we watched a presentation from a few of our peers, and then we practiced some mirroring, clay tableaux, and flocking! We made our own presentations and demonstrated these to our peers, demonstrating our out of role reflection.
Agenda - Lessons to Improve our Understanding of Drama:
- Brainstorming
- Mirroring/Clay Tableaux/Flocking
- Out of role reflection
Brainstorming:
- Artefacts
- How were they used.
- Slow and steady
Mirroring/Clay Tableaux/ Flocking:
- Show painting
- Movements from various perspectives.
- ABAB pattern
- Slow and steady.
- Accept
- Compromise
- Reject
- Group Work
- Four movements X four people per groups
- 16 Counts X 2 = 32 counts.
These exercises were quite fun! We could demonstrate dance moves in a fluid, creative fashion, yet from the audience perspective, it could look much more organized than previously anticipated.
Out of Role - The Reflection:
- What worked?
- What didn’t work?
- Who was represented?
- How was the decision made?
- Where could you go now?
As a class/individually, we asked all these questions of ourselves. It was quite strange yet super fascinating to see how creative and coordinated our dances turned out. I could see this class in particular take a Phys-Ed cross-curricular turn. Also, I liked how we discussed how we can communicate this lesson to students with exceptionalities, demonstrating that anyone can participate and feel comfortable in this classroom setting.
