Dance Reflection 5:
Dance in Education Part 5
Agenda - Lessons to Improve our Understanding of Dance:
- Colour Wheel/Energy Wheel
- The Wave
- Colour Dance
Colour Wheel and Energy Wheel:
- Choose a colour.
- Choose a verb.
- Create a quality (light, lively, strong, explosive, heavy, sustained)
-Red—travel
-Yellow- -jump
-Blue-melt.
Orange -turn
Purple – of power
Green – grow.
- As a person who has a natural colour deficiency in sight, this expectation of creating and presenting using feelings idea was difficult for me.
- While I think the actual lesson could help most students communicate their feelings and ideas, I think we forget that many students (males in particular) have a colour deficiency from birth
- It would create for a more inclusive classroom environment for students with a colour deficiency to have shapes associated with the colours.
Watch Out For That Wave:
- Discussion/Demonstration: Combining our actions to the colour wheel.
- We created groups based on our colour choice and demonstrated the different movements/feelings.
- 4 people per group.
- A/B
- Teach the group your action.
- Decide together on a reaction.
- A=action
- B=reaction
- This was a fun exercise, as every student became the "subject matter expert" in their colour
- Students can feel the confidence they need to facilitate their dance in the group setting
